More than 30 years ago, José Luis Ponce began his career in the Puerto Rico food industry working as office manager for Commonwealth Cold Storage, Inc. – the largest refrigerated warehouse in the Caribbean. His will, hard work and determination led him to become the company’s president in 1991. Five years later, Ponce bought Commonwealth and at the same time created his second company, Ponce Packing Co.

That was the beginning of what we now know as Ponce Enterprises.
With the acquisition of other companies more services were added, including: dry storage, island wide distribution, food packing and food processing.

In 2002, Ponce acquired a food processing plant and warehouse located in Bayamón (Kingdom Packing Company and POPACO Enterprises). Back then, the plant only manufactured canned meat products for the public sector. After undergoing an expansion and thanks to Ponce’s vision, Kingdom Packing Company increased its production capacity and diversified its product portfolio. Today it has become one of the premier providers of food processing and manufacturing services for both the public and private sectors.

In 2005, Kingdom Packing Company was named Manufacturing Company of the Year by the Puerto Rico Minority Enterprise Development Center, and was awarded the title of Manufacturing Enterprise of the Year for the region of Atlanta by the Minority Business Development Agency.
